Wanda Jackson Releases Unfinished Business On October 9
- Created on Tuesday, 10 July 2012 17:28
Wanda Jackson returns to her roots with Unfinished Business, which is set to release on October 9, and Rolling Stone also has a special look at a behind the scenes video of Wanda discussing the new album, which you can view here.
Country music icon Wanda Jackson, dubbed "The Queen of Rockabilly," worked with producer Justin Townes Earle to bring her back to her roots and hear a side of the singer that we haven't heard in some time.
"From day one I really liked Justin's idea to take me back to my roots and make a record of country, blues, and rockabilly songs," Jackson tells Rolling Stone. "The band was extra tight and great to work with during the whole process. The record just sounds terrific and I'm hoping that my fans enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it."
KATHY MATTEA TO RELEASE CALLING ME HOME ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2012
- Created on Friday, 29 June 2012 22:50
Most artists take fewer and fewer risks as they get older, but Kathy Mattea is a striking exception. She didn’t play it safe while she charted mainstream country hits—16 of them reaching the top ten—and she’s not about to start now.
Four years ago, Mattea, one of the most sure-footed country-pop song interpreters of her generation, caught everyone off guard with an album of old-timey Appalachian mining songs called Coal. She’s delved even deeper into her Appalachian heritage with Calling Me Home, available from Sugar Hill on September 11th, 2012, co-produced with modern acoustic mastermind Gary Paczosa and featuring liner notes from bestselling author, and Kentucky-born kindred spirit, Barbara Kingsolver.
Mattea’s new direction couldn’t have taken her further from her old way of doing things. Where once she was pitched songs by Music Row writers, now she collects the generations-old and new but old-in-soul tunes that move her at folk gatherings, and rounds out her repertoire through extensive research. Two songs here came from a CD that Alice Gerrard, of the influential ‘70s folk duo Hazel & Alice, personally pressed into her hand at one such festival.
Kasey Chambers "Storybook" to be released July 30th as Amazon exclusive
- Created on Tuesday, 05 June 2012 17:28
Sugar Hill Records is excited to announce the July 30th Amazon.com exclusive worldwide release of Storybook from Aussie songstress Kasey Chambers. The fifteen song release is a collection of songs that inspired Kasey to become a musician. In her words, “this album is a collection of songs and tributes to artists who have influenced me from when I was a small child up until now. I can honestly say that I would not be who I am today without the music from these incredible singer/songwriters and their inspiration.” The album is the musical accompaniment to Kasey’s autobiography, A Little Bird Told Me, which was recently published by Harper Collins in Australia. On Storybook, Kasey works her magic on gutsy, soulful tunes hand-picked from the iconic songbooks of Gram Parsons, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt and more. Kasey returns to the U.S. this summer with a brand new run of tour dates in conjunction with the worldwide release of Storybook. For more information about Storybook, click here.
